Dr. Daniel Fernandes Melo, MD, MSc, PhD Dermatologist and Trichologist Email: danielfernandesmelo@yahoo.com.br Dr. Daniel Fernandes Melo is a Brazilian dermatologist and trichologist with extensive academic and clinical expertise in hair disorders, particularly scarring alopecias. He holds a PhD and MSc in Medicine from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), where he also served as Professor of Dermatology at the University Hospital Pedro Ernesto from 2017 to 2024. He completed his postgraduate training in Dermatology at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). Dr. Melo is a board-certified dermatologist by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD) and completed advanced international fellowships in Hair Diseases at the Universities of Bologna/Modena (Italy) and Miami (USA). His leadership includes serving as Head of the Hair Department of the SBD regional Rio de Janeiro (2015–2018) and later as National Coordinator of the Hair Department of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (2023–2024). He has authored approximately 100 scientific papers and 10 book chapters in trichology, contributing significantly to the understanding and management of complex scalp disorders such as scarring and non-scarring alopecias. His work emphasizes the integration of trichoscopy and novel therapeutic approaches, bridging clinical research and patient-centered care. Dr. Melo is an active member of several international dermatologic societies, including the International Trichoscopy Society (ITS), the European Hair Research Society (EHRS), the American Hair Research Society (AHRS), the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the Ibero-Latin American College of Dermatology (CILAD), and the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD). In 2023, he was awarded the Young Dermatologist Award at the World Congress of Dermatology in Singapore, recognizing his innovative contributions to hair research and clinical dermatology.
