Holds a degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Bahia (1983), a Master's degree in Medicine from the Federal University of Bahia (1997) and a PhD in Medicine from the Federal University of Bahia (2003). He completed postgraduate studies in Immunodermatology at INSERM U209 in Lyon, from 1990 to 1991. He obtained a Master of Science from Cornell University in 2014. He is currently Coordinator and Associate Researcher of the Immunology Service of the Professor Edgard Santos University Hospital of the Federal University of Bahia, Professor of the Postgraduate Program in Health Sciences - UFBA and Preceptor of the Medical Residency in Dermatology at HUPES - UFBA. He has experience in the areas of Immunology and Dermatology, with an emphasis on Cellular Immunology, Immunotherapy and Clinical Trials. He works mainly on the following topics: clinical and immunopathological aspects of American cutaneous leishmaniasis, leprosy and leprosy reactions; role of viral co-infections in leprosy; cutaneous manifestations of HTLV-1 infection; new treatments for American tagumental leishmaniasis; immunopathogenesis of vitiligo.
