Genevieve Arany-Lao-Kan is a second-year MD–PhD student and sixth-year medical student at the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Dermatooncology, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. Her research is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Norbert Kiss and Dr. András Bánvölgyi, with scientific methodology guidance from Dr. Katalin Martyin and Fanni Meznerics. Her PhD project focuses on psychodermatological interventions in chronic skin diseases, with a particular emphasis on atopic dermatitis. Her work explores the relationship between psychological stress and dermatologic disease activity, aiming to integrate psychotherapy into standard dermatologic care. Genevieve’s completed systematic review and meta-analysis examined the efficacy of psychotherapy as an adjunct treatment in atopic dermatitis, demonstrating meaningful improvements in both disease severity and quality of life. Her ongoing international survey investigates current clinical practices and the global characteristics of psychological interventions in dermatology. Her academic vision is to reduce the psychological burden experienced by patients with atopic dermatitis through the implementation of psychotherapy as part of comprehensive, patient-centered care.
